Quote: "Diesel is really hurt much more, not by the Middle East, but by what's going on in Russia, because those diesel refineries are being knocked out at a pretty alarming rate."

Details: Trump also said that without strikes on Russian oil refining facilities, the current problems with diesel fuel might not exist.

Quote: "What's happened in Russia with Ukraine has been really the biggest problem for diesel."

Background:

  • Trump called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to stop strikes on Russian diesel fuel infrastructure, saying that the attacks were causing a shortage of diesel.
  • During the public part of a meeting with Zelenskyy in early July, Trump noted that Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries were an escalation capable of bringing the war to an end.
  • Trump said in September that he had had a "great" conversation with Vladimir Putin and claimed that the Russian leader wants to strike a deal to end the war in Ukraine.
