Kremlin welcomes Trump's offer to help Russia over plague outbreak in Siberia
The Kremlin has welcomed US President Donald Trump's offer to assist Russia following the death of an employee at a plague research laboratory.
Source: Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, as quoted by Russian Interfax and reported by European Pravda
Details: Peskov said that "it is always very good when mutual assistance is offered".
The journalist who asked the question also noted that the US president had described the situation as a major problem for Russia.
"To be honest, I did not hear the president say that he considers this a major problem for Russia. I don't think anything of the sort was said, although I may be mistaken," the Kremlin spokesman replied.
Background:
- Trump has offered Russia assistance in dealing with the incident.
- On 6 October, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that Russia should provide more information about the death of the employee at the plague research laboratory.
- The European Commission is also monitoring a possible outbreak of pneumonic plague in Siberia and is ready to coordinate response measures among EU member states if necessary.
