Details: Zelenskyy reported that Ukrainian negotiators will be in the US on 9-10 October for talks with the American side.
The president also commented on statements by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding a stalemate in peace negotiations. Zelenskyy called on Washington to step up pressure on Russia instead of offering it economic cooperation.
Quote: "One cannot, on the one hand, negotiate with the Russians about future economic projects, whilst on the other hand say that we find ourselves in some sort of... diplomatic stalemate. We are not in a diplomatic stalemate. Shut down their entire economy. Stitch Russia's mouth shut. Do not feed them with your sales, impose sanctions on their weapons."
Background:
- Rubio said that ending the Russia-Ukraine war through diplomatic negotiations is currently "proving elusive".
- Reuters reported that senior Russian and American officials held talks regarding involving an American investor to repair operations of the Nord Stream gas pipelines.
- Democratic and Republican senators sent a letter to US administration officials calling on them to use all tools provided for by the "Graham Act" to pressure Russia.
