Details: Costa said he had invited Zelenskyy to the EU leaders' summit, which will take place next week.
Quote: "We discussed Ukraine's progress towards EU accession. We look forward to opening two negotiating clusters next week, and all remaining clusters by the end of the year."
Details: Costa also pointed to the intensification of Russian attacks on Ukraine. He said this demonstrates that Russia has no genuine interest in peace negotiations.
"The EU will continue to stand by Ukraine until a just and lasting peace is achieved. It is time for Russia to end its war," Costa wrote.
Background:
- Hungary has lifted the blockade that had prevented Ukraine from moving to the next stage of the procedure for opening negotiating clusters 2 and 3.
- On 6 October, the European Commission adopted a package of proposals on pre-enlargement policy reviews, which are intended to enable the EU to admit new members, including Ukraine.
