Drones attack Lukoil oil refinery in Russia

Drones attacked the Russian city of Ukhta in the Republic of Komi on the morning of 9 October, where monitoring channels reported that the target was a Lukoil oil refinery.

Details: The newspaper reported that sirens, explosions and gunfire had been heard in the city, with smoke visible in the footage posted.

Local authorities declared a drone threat, urged residents not to panic and described the situation as "under control".

The Ukhta oil refinery is part of the Lukoil group and produces petrol, diesel fuel, fuel oil and vacuum gas oil. According to The Moscow Times, the plant processed around 3 million tonnes of crude oil in 2025.

The extent of the damage to the plant following this attack has not yet been established. There have been no official reports regarding the target of the strike.

Background: On 7 October, it was reported that an oil refinery in the Russian city of Volgograd had suspended operations following a Ukrainian drone attack on 2 October.
