Details: Judging by photos and videos posted by eyewitnesses, a large fire broke out in Rostov-on-Don following a series of powerful explosions.
Slyusar confirmed the fire and said air defence forces were responding. He wrote that "more than 50 UAVs have been shot down since yesterday evening".
He also said that the drone attack had damaged a railway bridge. As a result, "train services in both directions have been suspended".
The targeted facility handles the transshipment of petroleum products for export and is involved in supplying fuel to the Russian military. It also generates foreign-currency revenue that helps finance Russia's war against Ukraine. The terminal has a design capacity of approximately 2.5 million tonnes a year.
Background:
- On 9 July, Ukraine's defence forces and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed a successful drone strike on the oil-loading terminal near Bataysk in Rostov Oblast, which caused a fire.
- In September, Ukrainian forces conducted further airstrikes on the production facilities at the Novoshakhtinsk Oil Refinery in Rostov Oblast.
