Details: Repair work has begun in areas where it is safe to do so.
Blackout schedules will be in effect throughout the day for up to two queues Ukrenergo defines a "queue" as a group of consumers and businesses using a specific amount of megawatts. The Dispatch Centre sets the number of queues needed across oblasts to address energy deficits. Critical infrastructure and eligible industrial companies that import at least 60% of their energy cannot be disconnected, according to a Ukrainian Cabinet resolution – meaning electricity may be unavailable for up to eight hours a day.
Power engineers also urge the public to limit consumption during peak hours – from 16:00 to 22:00 – to avoid overloading the power system and prevent grid failures.
Background:
- On the night of 13-14 October, the Russians conducted a combined attack on Ukraine. Specifically, missile and drone air-raid warnings were issued several times in Kyiv and a number of oblasts. Power cuts were recorded in the capital.
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that Russian strikes have caused significant damage to 26 energy sites. He wrote that at least 600,000 people currently remain without power and added that further blackouts are possible.
