Zelenskyy: Europe understands that as long as Ukraine holds out, escalation with Russia will be lower

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that Europe is united in its support for Ukraine because it understands all the risks involved.

Details: Zelenskyy said he has felt strong support from Europe, particularly over the past month. "Europe is very united and understands all the risks. Because these risks are not only for Ukraine," the president said.
He mentioned incidents involving Russian drones violating EU countries' airspace, as well as a drone incident in Leipzig.
Quote: "Today, it is not necessary to wage a ground war. Violating airspace is already an invasion. Russia is testing us. Five or six countries have already been attacked by drones. So Europe understands that as long as Ukraine holds out, there will be less escalation with Russia. Everyone recognises this today, 100%."
Details: Zelenskyy stressed that the issue is not Ukraine's withdrawal from Donbas but the very existence of the Ukrainian state.
"We are standing our ground and fighting. What is the alternative? We will be destroyed. Not everyone feels this because Ukraine is holding out," the president said.
"And if he [Putin] wins, how many Ukrainians will come to Europe? 20 million?" he asked, adding that Ukraine's collapse would pose a greater threat to Europe than a few drones in the sky.
Background:
- Zelenskyy also said that the US had rejected a compromise proposal under which Ukraine could have stopped striking Russian oil refineries.
- Zelenskyy had previously expressed concern that the US could enter into further energy deals with Russia following the diesel agreement. The Ukrainian president had also expressed disappointment with the US position, saying that it is "painful" when Trump chooses the other side.
