Details: The new aid package particularly aims to support Ukraine's energy infrastructure ahead of the winter.
Quote from Rosencrantz: "Ukraine is fighting not only for its own freedom but also for the security of all of Europe. As Russia brutally attacks civilian energy infrastructure ahead of another winter of war, we are responding by providing aid for rebuilding and healthcare."
Background:
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson have discussed Ukraine's needs for protection against Russia's constant attacks, first and foremost stronger air defence. In particular, Sweden has promised to provide Gripen fighter jets.
- On 16 October, Zelenskyy called on EU leaders to provide Ukraine with at least €70 billion in additional aid next year for defence, weapons and strengthening resilience.
