Details: Zelenskyy stated that following US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff's visit, Russia has said it is in favour of a three-way team-level meeting.

Quote from Zelenskyy: "It was important that Steve Witkoff had a meeting with the Russian side today. We have received feedback that Russia, as far as we understand from the briefing, supports a trilateral meeting at the level of our teams. The American side suggests doing this as soon as possible, and we support this.

I don't know what the final dates of this meeting will be. The agenda is clear: to end the war, bring peace closer, and prepare everything, as far as I understand, for a meeting at leader level."

Details: Zelenskyy added that Ukraine has discussed the meeting with its American partners.

Quote: "They will do it as early as possible – in November, I think, no later than early November. We'll see. Not everything depends on us."

Background:

  • As reported previously, following his meetings with Zelenskyy in Oslo and Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg, Witkoff stated that discussions on ending the Russia-Ukraine war will continue in the form of trilateral negotiations at the technical level.
  • Witkoff called Putin a "humanitarian" during his meeting with the Russian leader in St Petersburg on Wednesday.
  • The talks in St Petersburg began with the announcement of the release of US citizen Stephen Hubbard, a 74-year-old retired teacher from Michigan who had been designated by the US State Department to be wrongfully detained.
  • US President Donald Trump said he asked Putin to release the American – and claimed that Russia demanded nothing in return.
