Defence Intelligence of Ukraine has posted an interactive 3D model and details of the components of the new Russian Filin cruise missile, which Russian forces began using in late summer 2026, along with its electronic component database.

Details: "The new Filin cruise missile, developed by NPO Molniya, which is part of the Tactical Missiles Corporation, is continuing the trend in Russia's military-industrial complex towards developing low-cost, jet-powered, ground-launched aerial weapons," DIU said.

The missile has a fuselage made of composite material (carbon fibre and fibreglass), measuring 3.5 m in length, with a wingspan of 3 m. Some of its components are manufactured using 3D printing technology. The maximum speed claimed by Russia is 800 km/h, and its range is up to 1,200 km.

The missile can fly at extremely low altitudes or at heights of up to 6,000 m. Versions with 50 kg and 100 kg warheads are available. It is launched from a ground-based launcher using a solid-propellant booster.

Quote from DIU: "It has been established that the missile's onboard equipment is manufactured by Plaz LLC, which is also involved in producing Garpiya drones, a modification of the Geran-2 produced by Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant JSC in the K, KB, KC and other series. The Filin and Garpiya units have similar layouts and markings. A Chinese-made inertial navigation system and a 16-channel Kometa system handle targeting."

Details: DIU noted that the electronic components in the onboard equipment are similar to those used in other Russian missiles and drones. However, the new missile features a higher proportion of Chinese components – 22, compared with 35 American components – as well as standardised solutions across different units and circuit boards.

Meanwhile, DIU stressed that the Filin's engine is Russian-made: the R500, manufactured by Reynolds LLC. The same engine was previously identified in the S-71K Kover and S-71M Monokhrom cruise missiles, among others.

Background: DIU previously posted an interactive 3D model and information about the components and companies involved in producing Russia's 9-S-7760 aeroballistic missile, better known as the Kh-47M2 Kinzhal.
