Background:

  • On 2 October, Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the Ukrainian President's Office, reported that more than 26,000 bodies and remains had been returned to Ukraine as part of repatriation measures, but a significant portion of them still remain unidentified.
  • According to Budanov, following a meeting of the Coordination Council, an algorithm of actions was agreed upon: to create an interagency group to address problematic identification issues, review the work of forensic medical examination bureaus, particularly in the regions, and engage international capabilities for DNA testing.
