Foreign minister reveals Ukraine's trick for dealing with Orbán, who is being considered for UN secretary-general
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has commented on reports that the US administration is promoting former Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán for the post of UN secretary-general.
Source: Sybiha on X (Twitter), as reported by European Pravda
Details: Sybiha said he is confident that, if appointed UN secretary-general, Orbán "would put to good use the masterful veto and blackmail skills he has developed over years of derailing major EU decisions".
In this context, the Ukrainian minister joked about inviting the former Hungarian prime minister "for coffee". The reference was to an incident at an EU summit in late 2023, when Orbán left the meeting room, which allowed EU leaders to approve the opening of accession negotiations with Ukraine without Budapest vetoing the decision.
"We can share with the rest of the world our great experience of taking him out for coffee at the right moment," Sybiha wrote.

- In May, investigative journalists reported that figures in the MAGA wing of the US Republican Party were considering a scenario in which Orbán would be appointed to a UN position and thereby shield himself from prosecution in Hungary.
- Hungarian investigative journalist Szabolcs Panyi said that Orbán is preparing to flee to the US should he face legal action in Hungary.
