Energy facilities in 10 oblasts of Ukraine have been targeted during the Russian attack on the night of 2-3 November and the morning of 3 November.
Source: Artem Nekrasov, First Deputy Minister of Energy, at a briefing on the operational situation in the energy system; Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi
Details: Nekrasov reported about Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Odesa, Chernihiv, Chernivtsi, Khmelnytskyi and Kharkiv oblasts.
Russia launched targeted missile and drone strikes against power plants, transmission and distribution system substations, as well as combined heat and power plants.
The most difficult power supply situation is in Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr and Kharkiv oblasts. The energy infrastructure of these regions sustained extensive damage, leaving some consumers without power.
Over the course of 2 November the Russians targeted energy infrastructure over 20 times.
Koretskyi also noted that major power stations in Dnipropetrovsk, Vinnytsia and Kharkiv oblasts were targeted. Russia also attacked a number of key substations, particularly in the western parts of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Koretskyi's statement refers to an attack on the energy sector of 9 oblasts, rather than 10, as stated in the information from the Ministry of Energy.
Background:
- On the morning of 3 November, due to equipment damage and voltage drops in the high-voltage network, emergency power outages were applied in Kyiv, as well as in Kyiv, Poltava, Sumy, Chernihiv, Cherkasy and Kharkiv oblasts.
- In some oblasts where emergency outages are not in place, scheduled power outage schedules are being applied on 3 November, leaving consumers over 12 hours without electricity. These are the first outages of such volume this autumn.
