Details: Tusk said at a meeting of Poland's Council of Ministers that shortly after midnight, he received a report from the border guard service that "suspicious activity" had been observed in the north, on the Polish-Russian border, requiring immediate action.

Quote from Tusk: "People with torches. We very quickly mobilised the appropriate personnel and resources there and managed to prevent a provocation.

It's not that we avoided any tragic incidents tonight, but we must remain extremely vigilant [...]. Tensions and escalation on Russia's part may continue, and we must remain vigilant and ready to prevent any potential provocations."

According to Tusk, Poland had received information from its own and allied intelligence services that "sabotage operations or more serious provocations, as well as acts of sabotage organised by hostile intelligence services", could take place on the border with Russia "in the early days of November".

Quote from Tusk: "General Alexus Grynkewich, Supreme Allied Commander Europe, also warned of such a possible scenario. Having received more precise information that incidents could occur in the first half of November – including an incursion into Polish territory by armed individuals – we decided to deploy substantial police and counter-terrorism forces to the border and to strengthen the border guard."

Background: Yesterday it was reported that the Polish Police, working alongside the Armed Forces, the Border Guard and the Security Service, have established a special operations headquarters for a preventive security operation in the Warmian-Masurian and Podlaskie voivodeships.
