Polish security forces prepare for possible sabotage on border with Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast

Polish police, working alongside the armed forces, the border guard and the security services, have established a special operations headquarters for a preventive security operation in the Warmian-Masurian and Podlaskie voivodeships.

Details: Preventive measures are being taken in response to reports that acts of sabotage may be carried out on the border with Kaliningrad Oblast in the coming days.
"This is directly related to the situation in our country today, namely acts of diversion and sabotage, this hybrid crime and the activities of Eastern secret services," Boroń explained.
The operation is being conducted by the police. Its command centre is located at the National Police Headquarters. The regional police headquarters in Olsztyn and Białystok are also involved.
The authorities were warned last week by military intelligence and allied intelligence services that sabotage could take place on the border with Russia, including incursions by armed groups.
Quote: "The police are ensuring security in the Królewiec district in case of possible incidents that could lead to acts of sabotage.
To this end, reinforcements from police departments in several voivodeships have arrived in the border area. This follows information we have also received from external services. We must ensure the safety of citizens living there, as well as protecting facilities and responding to any situations that could pose a threat to the public."
Details: Boroń denied any connection between the police mobilisation and the political crisis surrounding Poland's Constitutional Tribunal, where a dispute over the court's leadership has sparked protests and a confrontation between the government and the opposition.
Background:
- Poland's Territorial Defence Forces are to establish a special brigade tasked with protecting the border with Kaliningrad Oblast.
- Lithuania's enhanced security measures along its border with Kaliningrad Oblast will be extended until mid-November.
- Russian ruler Vladimir Putin recently confirmed threats made through Russian embassies against NATO countries, saying that in the event of a direct attack on Kaliningrad or another Russian region, Russia would use its entire arsenal of weapons.
