Ukraine’s Ambassador to the European Union Mykola Tochytskyi denies media reports on granting Ukraine and Georgia visa-free travel from January 1, 2017. He said this during a media briefing in Kyiv.

"I did not see any report of the Council of the EU on this. It was not discussed by EU decision-makers and by the EU member states’ diplomats, either," Tochytskyi stressed.

"The draft report of the Council has been already tabled with the European Parliament, but it doesn’t mention this idea," he explained.

He sees no motivation for the EU to bind itself to a grant visa-free regime by 2017.

Rikard Jozwiak, correspondent of Radio Liberty Brussels, reported earlier that the European Union diplomats expected Ukraine and Georgia to be granted visa-free travel in the Schengen Zone by January 1, 2017.
