Quote: "During the war in Chernihiv, about 700 people have died – a total of both military and civilian."

Details: The mayor added that 70 dead were not identified. The names of the rest are known.

In addition, 40 people are officially considered missing, but they can be considered dead because they had been seen near buildings and cars destroyed by the Russian occupiers.

Atroshenko believes that about 80-95 thousand residents remain in the city. Before the war, the population of the regional centre ranged from 285 to 290 thousand people.

Background: Atroshenko said earlier that 70% of Chernihiv has been destroyed.

On 6 April, the military administration said that only those involved in rebuilding critical infrastructure could return to Chernihiv.
