Khanatov’s Quote: "The situation is only getting more difficult every day, and today is no exception. The Russian military cynically destroys and breaks everything in its path… Popasna has not yet been completely occupied, our civilians can still leave Popasna.

You can only leave on foot, and then people are met already at the border with the Donetsk region. This has been done several times already.

People leave in the direction of the Donetsk Oblast; our military meet them, give them food, give them water, and people can escape. Then we can meet them on the border of the Donetsk Oblast."

Details: According to Khanatov, about one and a half thousand people have remained in the city. About 3 thousand people remained in the entire Popasna area.

Khanatov said the Ukrainian authorities do not have access to shelters and private estates where people are hiding. According to international humanitarian law, the responsibility for providing drinking water and food lies with the occupiers.

Background:

  • The Luhansk Regional Military Administration noted on the morning of 6 May that the Russian invaders were continuously raining fire on frontline towns and villages in the Luhansk region. In the coming days, occupying forces are preparing an assault on Popasna or Severodonetsk in an effort to encircle the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
  • On 6 May, they managed to evacuate only three people from Severodonetsk, and another 15 thousand remain in the city under fierce shelling from the Russian army.
