Zelenskyy: At present, analysts do not see any risk of a second invasion from Belarus

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that, at present, Ukrainian analysts do not see any real risk of a second invasion of Ukraine from Belarusian territory.

Background:

  • On 11 May, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine stated that Russia is planning to capture Kyiv, create a new state formation and incorporate it into the Russian Federation.
  • On 27 May, the Russian edition of Meduza (a Russian- and English-language independent news website), referring to two sources close to the Kremlin and one source directly within the administration of the President of the Russian Federation, reported that the Kremlin is discussing a possible attack on Kyiv and that it is still hoping for a full-scale victory in the war against Ukraine.
  • On 28 May, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine stated that, at present, it does not see any signs of Russia planning a second attack on Kyiv.
  • On 5 June, after the bombardment of Kyiv, the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine pointed out that the capital remains the main objective of the Russian aggressors and is therefore under constant threat.
