A vessel to transport grain for Africa has arrived in Ukraine within the framework of the "grain initiative"

On Friday the BRAVE COMMANDER bulk carrier, sailing under the flag of Lebanon, arrived in the Pivdennyi (South) port for loading. It will soon depart for Ethiopia with 23,000 tonnes of grain on board.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Infrastructure.

The vessel was chartered according to the UN World Food Programme to transport foodstuffs.

"From the beginning of the discussion of the ‘Grain Initiative’, Ukraine has understood that it bears responsibility for providing the socially vulnerable populations of African, Asian and Latin American countries with food, as they have traditionally been among the key consumers of Ukrainian agricultural produce. This is especially true of helping those who are on the brink of starvation", according to Oleksandr Kubrakov, Ukraine’s Minister of Infrastructure.

The BRAVE COMMANDER vessel will be loaded with 23,000 tonnes of Ukrainian grain destined for Ethiopia. Loading is set to start on Saturday. As Kubrakov remarked, Ukraine is working with the UN World Food Programme to make sure that the volume of food shipments continues to increase.

Within the framework of the grain initiative, 14 vessels have already left Ukrainian ports with a total of more than 430,000 tonnes of agricultural produce on board.

Background:

On the morning of 12 August, the fifth convoy of ships carrying Ukrainian foodstuffs left the Ukrainian ports of Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi (South).

Ukraine will assess the possibility of adding the Mykolaiv sea port to the "grain corridor", provided that Russia sticks to the agreements concerning lifting the blockade of the Ukrainian ports and providing safety guarantees.
