"Today, Russia once again carried out a massive attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. This is civilian infrastructure that provides electricity and heating for millions of Ukrainian women, children and pensioners.

Thus, on the day the European Parliament recognised it as a state sponsor of terrorism, the Russian Federation proved the incontrovertible truth of this definition. Only terrorists do this to the people they cannot defeat, so they simply try to destroy them," the ministry said.

The Ministry of Energy emphasises that the missile attack has resulted in temporary power outages at all nuclear power plants and most thermal and hydroelectric power plants. Power transmission facilities were also damaged.

As a result, the vast majority of electricity consumers across the country have been cut off. Emergency shutdowns are taking place. The lack of electricity can affect the availability of heat and water supply.

The Ministry notes that electrical engineers are already working and doing everything possible to restore the electricity supply as soon as possible.

"But given the extent of the damage, we will need time.

But Russia will not succeed in intimidating Ukrainians. Ukrainians are not afraid of the cold. Ukrainians are not afraid of darkness. Ukrainians are not afraid of terrorists. We are defeating them through our joint efforts, each of us at our own workplace. Trust the electrical engineers, trust the Armed Forces!", the Ministry of Energy added.

Background:

Due to a decrease in current frequency in the energy system of Ukraine, emergency protection was activated at the Rivne, South Ukrainian and Khmelnitsky NPPs, as a result of which all power units were automatically shut down.

All power units of the South Ukrainian NPP in Mykolaiv Oblast underwent an emergency shutdown.

The work of the units of the Khmelnitsky NPP has been suspended as a result of the Russian attack.
