The Russian Federation has not officially reported what happened to Colonel General Alexander Lapin, who was sacked from the office of Commander of the Central army group of the Russian forces.

Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, conferred the title of Hero of Russia on Lapin in July. Then, after a series of failures in the war in Ukraine, Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of Chechnya, and Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of the Wagner private military company,  publicly criticised Lapin, blaming him for these failures.

On 29 October, the Chechen State Broadcasting Company Grozny reported the dismissal of Lapin after Kadyrov and Prigozhin’s comments.

This information has not been confirmed officially.
