Number of child victims continues to rise: Russia has killed 450 Ukrainian children

As of the morning of 17 December, more than 1,313 Ukrainian children have been killed or injured in Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. 

The war has left 450 children dead and more than 863 children with injuries of various degrees of severity, the Prosecutor General's Office reports.

An 18-month-old child was killed in a missile attack on a residential building in Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, on 16 December.

The oblast with the largest number of child casualties is Donetsk Oblast, with 428. Kharkiv Oblast has 267; Kyiv Oblast 117; Mykolaiv Oblast 80; Zaporizhzhia Oblast 78; Kherson Oblast 74; Chernihiv Oblast 68; Luhansk Oblast 65; and Dnipropetrovsk Oblast 39.

"These figures are not final, as work on establishing them in places of active hostilities and temporarily occupied and liberated territories is ongoing," the prosecutors of crimes against youth emphasised.

According to the prosecutors’ official data, 331 children are missing and 13,613 children have been deported.

3,126 educational institutions have been damaged due to bombing and shelling by the Russian occupiers; 337 of them have been completely destroyed.

The number of killed and wounded Ukrainian children continues to rise due to the occupiers’ actions.

As of 9 December the prosecutors reported 443 children killed and 855 injured.
