Sevriukov reported that Lieutenant Colonel Bachurin, deputy commander of the regiment, was killed as a result of the Ukrainian attack on Makiivka.

The Russian Ministry claimed that the cause of the mass death of the military was the use of mobile phones by personnel.

"This factor allowed the enemy to locate and determine the coordinates of the location of the military personnel for launching a missile strike," Sevriukov said.

In addition, Sevriukov stated that the Russian military had destroyed the high mobility artillery rocket systems (HIMARS), which Ukrainian troops used to attack Makiivka, and four more similar systems had been destroyed near the railway station in Druzhkivka.

Slovo i dilo [Ukrainian analytical portal that verifies the fulfilment of promises made by Ukrainian politicians and officials] has calculated that Russian propaganda media reported the destruction of 55 HIMARS as of mid-December. This is despite the fact that the USA has supplied Ukraine with only 20 such MLRS since June.

Background:

  • Earlier, StratCom reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had killed about 400 mobilised Russians in a precision strike on the city of Makiivka on New Year's Eve. About 300 more invaders were wounded with varying degrees of severity
  • The Russian soldiers had been stationed in the building of a local vocational school, No. 19.
  • Igor Girkin (Strelkov), a Russian terrorist and former so-called "Minister of Defence of the Donetsk People’s Republic", confirmed that a large number of Russian servicemen had been killed in occupied Makiivka, adding that something like this could happen again.
