Biden briefed on Prigozhin plane crash – media

US President Joe Biden has been informed about a plane crash in Russia in which Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner mercenary group, may have died.

Details: Meanwhile, Adrienne Watson, White House National Security Council spokeswoman, said officials were monitoring reports of the plane crash.

  • On the evening of 23 August, Russian media and Rosaviatsiya [the Federal Air Transport Agency − ed.] reported that a small plane had crashed with Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner Group, on board. All 10 people on board were reportedly killed. The media reported that, in addition to Prigozhin himself, his deputy, Dmitry Utkin, who went under the alias Wagner, was also on board the plane.
  • The United States was in direct contact with Russia during the so-called Wagner rebellion.
