Russia carried out a massive attack against Ukraine's energy sector on 15 January. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said it targeted the gas infrastructure in particular.

Background:

  • On the night of 14-15 January, Russia launched a combined air attack on Ukraine's infrastructure and energy sector, firing 117 missiles and drones, and the Ukrainian air defence system destroyed 77 of them.
  • Ukraine's Minister of Energy Herman Halushchenko reported that the transmission system operator imposed preventive power supply restrictions due to the Russian missile attack.
