Russians strike Ukrainian railway infrastructure overnight: train driver injured, services suspended – photos, video

Russian forces attacked railway infrastructure in several Ukrainian oblasts on the night of 1-2 October, causing train services to be suspended. One train driver has been injured.

Quote: "Russia conducted a large-scale strike on the Ukrzaliznytsia [Ukrainian state-run railway operator] depot in Odesa overnight. A train driver has suffered shrapnel wounds and is receiving all necessary medical treatment. There were also strikes on railway infrastructure in border hromadas in the north, including in Konotop. Trains were stopped at a safe distance from the scenes and, as of the morning, all have resumed service. The overhead line network has been restored." Details: Kuleba added that some trains on the Chernihiv and Sumy routes are running with delays due to the attack.

Updated: The State Emergency Service later added that a fire had broken out and two people had been injured in the Russian attack on an Ukrzaliznytsia depot in Odesa.

"Firefihgters have extinguished the fire at the Ukrzaliznytsia depot. The roof and windows of a house were also damaged. Sadly, two people have been injured (one at the depot and one in a house)," the State Emergency Service reported.

A fire train was deployed to help extinguish the blaze.
