Details: The IAEA has said that an alternative energy source has been connected after the loss of power from the Slavutych substation, which was damaged by Russian attacks.
Quote: "Earlier today, Ukraine's Chornobyl NPP experienced power fluctuations after losing connection to its Slavutych substation 330 kV line. The site swiftly switched to alternate lines and power was restored, except for the New Safe Confinement (NSC), which covers the old sarcophagus built after the 1986 Chornobyl accident. Two emergency diesel generators are now supplying the NSC with electricity. All other facilities remain powered."
Background:
- On 1 October, the mayor of Slavutych reported that the town has been left without electricity after Russian forces attacked a power substation. A blackout has occurred at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant due to a power outage in Slavutych following Russian attacks.
- Three hours later, the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy reported that power engineers fully restored electricity supply to all facilities at the Chornobyl NPP.
