The EU and its global partners must continue ramping up the pressure on Russia until it finally accepts a just and lasting peace."

Background:

  • Russia launched a strike on a railway station in the Shostka hromada of Sumy Oblast on 4 October. The first struck a locomotive of the commuter train. As people began evacuating, a second Russian attack hit an electric locomotive of the train. Dozens of people were injured, and one carriage caught fire. [A hromada is an administrative unit designating a village, several villages, or a town, and their adjacent territories – ed.]
  • The EU is currently discussing the 19th sanctions package proposed by the European Commission, which aims to target, among other things, imports of Russian liquefied gas.
