General Staff gives reason for disbanding Dnipro Operational Strategic Group

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has announced that the Dnipro Operational Strategic Group has ceased its activities due to the implementation of a corps-level reform.

Quote: "The Dnipro Operational Strategic Group was not a standard structure, but a temporary one. With the corps assuming their respective responsibility sectors and in order to improve troop management, the need for operational‑strategic groupings has disappeared. That is why the Dnipro Operational Strategic Group has ceased to exist.
Major General Mykhailo Drapatyi holds a regular post as Commander of the Joint Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The position of commander of the Dnipro Operational Strategic Group is not a standard post, and he held it concurrently. It should be emphasised that Major General Drapatyi will continue to command the relevant set of troops in the operational area."
Details: The General Staff said that the disbandment of the Dnipro Operational Strategic Group will not reduce command efficiency or negatively affect the operational situation on the front line. These changes are intended to improve troop management.
Quote: "Major General Drapatyi remains in his position as Commander of the Joint Forces Command and continues to work closely with General Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine."
Background:
- At the end of September, General Syrskyi disbanded the Dnipro Operational Strategic Group (formerly the Khortytsia Operational Strategic Group).
- The Dnipro Operational Strategic Group had been responsible for a significant part of the front from Zaporizhzhia to Kharkiv, including distributing ammunition between brigades. Its functions are now being transferred to other troop groupings and newly created corps.
- Drapatyi's area of responsibility will be roughly halved. One military source told Ukrainska Pravda that this is "a way to remove a competitor".
