"An analysis of how this information is being spread indicates a coordinated information operation. Its goal is always the same — to cut Ukraine off from the support of Poland and NATO countries. Only the forms of deceit change," the Polish Interior Ministry stated.

The ministry also stressed that critical thinking and verifying sources of information are the best weapons in the fight against fake news.

Background:

  • Before the parliamentary elections in Moldova, false claims were constantly circulating on social media about supposed "agreements to send Moldovan troops" to Ukraine to fight against Russia.
  • In July, Ukraine's Ambassador to Hungary, Fedir Shandor, noted Russia's significant role in fuelling anti-Ukrainian sentiment in Hungary.
