Power supply fully restored in Cherkasy Oblast, rolling power outages in effect in Kyiv and seven oblasts

Power engineers have partially reduced the scope of rolling blackouts for consumers in Kharkiv Oblast, according to reports as of 14:30. Consumers in Cherkasy Oblast have been completely reconnected to the grid.

Details: Emergency power cuts are currently in effect in Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia oblasts. The ministry said rolling blackouts are also still being applied in Chernihiv Oblast.

Repair efforts are reportedly underway in each affected region after a large-scale Russian missile and drone attack on energy facilities.

Background:

• On the night of 9-10 October, Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine's power grid, leading to emergency power outages across the country.
• Thermal power plants belonging to DTEK, the largest private energy company in Ukraine, have been seriously damaged in the overnight Russian attack.
• Following the large-scale Russian strikes, as of 12:00, power engineers had restored power to 270,000 consumers in Kyiv. Special rolling blackouts have been cancelled in Kharkiv, Poltava and Sumy, although general power cuts continue.
• As of 13:21, power engineers had managed to partially reduce power supply restrictions for consumers in Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv and Sumy oblasts.
