Details: The Hungarian prime minister said that Ukrainian intelligence "is not just monitoring Hungary, but has infiltrated the country through the [allegedly – ed.] pro-Ukrainian Tisza party".
"They have infiltrated public life and politics, providing technological assistance to their allies to help them gain power here. We used to say, 'The Russians are in the pantry', now we have to say, 'The Ukrainians are in your smartphone'. We will not allow this!" Viktor Orbán said.
Orbán's statement was likely made in response to Hungarian publication Index's report that the Ukrainian company PettersonApps may have been working on developing an app for the opposition party Tisza. The publication stated that someone had leaked the data of 18,000 of its users online.
The Tisza party's press service reported that the app was developed by Hungarian specialists. The party later stated that although the database contained information related to their community, they do not know its source of origin.
Background:
- Viktor Orbán recently complained that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was using a "tactic of moral blackmail" against Hungary.
- Orbán also recently reiterated that Hungarians do not want to be in the same union as Ukrainians so as "not to share their fate".
