Zelenskyy presents Octopus interceptor drone to Starmer

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has demonstrated the Octopus, a Ukrainian interceptor drone, to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Quote: "Today, I discussed with the prime minister the development of defence cooperation and ways to increase pressure on Russia.

I presented the Ukrainian interceptor drone OCTOPUS, which the United Kingdom will produce for further testing in Ukraine. The agreement provides for the production of the first batch."

Details: The two leaders also discussed sanctions packages against Russia and coordinated positions ahead of the Coalition of the Willing meeting.

Background:

• In June, it was reported that the United Kingdom is investing a record £350 million (US$472 million) this year to increase the supply of drones to Ukraine from 10,000 in 2024 to 100,000 in 2025.
• On 11 September, Ukraine and the United Kingdom signed an agreement to produce Ukrainian interceptor drones.
• Earlier, the UK Ministry of Defence announced that the first joint project would be a new state-of-the-art air defence interceptor drone called Project Octopus.
