US President Donald Trump has claimed that Russian leader Vladimir Putin asked him to "settle" the war in Ukraine during their most recent phone conversation.

Quote: "I spoke to him [Putin] two weeks ago, and he said, 'We've been trying to settle that war for 10 years. We weren't able to do it. You got to settle'."
Details: Trump added that he "got some of these things settled in an hour", but did not specify what agreements he was referring to.
Meanwhile, he criticised the United Nations, accusing it of total inaction in resolving the Russo-Ukrainian war and other conflicts which, according to him, he stopped after returning to the White House in January 2025.
Background:
- The latest phone call between Trump and Putin took place on 16 October.
- The Kremlin claimed that Putin had warned Trump against supplying Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk missiles during the conversation, saying it would damage relations between Russia and the United States.
- Trump said after the call that now was not the best time to impose new sanctions on Russia, as it could harm relations with Putin.
