Quote: "At 14:31 Moscow time on 18 November, the Kyiv regime [as Russia refers to the Ukrainian government – ed.] attempted to launch a missile strike on civilian facilities deep inside the territory of the Russian Federation. The enemy used four US-made ATACMS operational and tactical missiles against the city of Voronezh."
Details: The ministry claimed that S-400 and Pantsir air defence crews had shot down all of the ATACMS missiles and that there were no civilian casualties.
The Russian Defence Ministry also asserted that it had identified the launch point near the village of Voloska Balakliia in Kharkiv Oblast and destroyed two ATACMS launchers using Iskander-M missiles.
Background:
- A day earlier, Ukraine's General Staff reported that Ukraine had successfully struck Russian military facilities using ATACMS tactical missile systems.
- In September, The Wall Street Journal reported that US President Donald Trump said during a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy that he was prepared to lift restrictions on Kyiv's use of long-range American weapons to strike targets on Russian territory.
