Ukraine's intelligence reveals components of Russia's new Shahed UAV used to attack Ukraine

Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) has published the structure, components and foreign-made electronics of the Iranian-made Shahed-107 UAV, which Russia is using to strike frontline regions of Ukraine.

Details: According to DIU, the drone was first publicly presented by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps this June during an escalation in the Iran-Israel conflict.
"The Shahed-107 is a high-wing UAV with a three-metre wingspan and an X-shaped tail used for stabilisation. The fuselage is made of carbon fibre and load-bearing elements are aluminium," DIU reports.
The examined sample is equipped with a 15-kg cumulative fragmentation warhead similar to those used in other Iranian Shahed models. Its powerplant is a Chinese two-stroke DLE 111 petrol engine – a type already repeatedly observed in Russian drones such as the Gerbera, BM-35, Parodiya and Delta.
Given its 28-litre fuel tank, DIU estimates the Shahed-107's operational range at around 300 km.
"Its navigation system uses an inertial navigation module similar to the Sadra IMU, an anti-jamming protection unit and a four-element anti-interference antenna. The flight is controlled by a flight-control unit that transmits commands to the elevon and engine servos," DIU revealed.
Intelligence notes that the drone's electronic components originate from the usual group of states seen in Iranian and Russian designs: the US, Switzerland, China, Japan, Taiwan, the Netherlands and Ireland.
"The introduction of the Shahed-107 in Russia and its use against Ukraine is further evidence of deepening cooperation between Tehran and Moscow. Iranian weapons continue to undergo combat testing on Ukrainian soil against Western defence technologies – and the technological insights gained by Russian forces may be used for future destabilising actions worldwide," DIU stresses.
Background:
- Recently, DIU also released new data on foreign equipment Russia uses to produce UMPK glide-bomb kits, missiles and artillery munitions.
- Before that, DIU published a schematic of the Russian Orion drone and information on 43 companies involved in its production.
