Russia launches combined missile and drone attack: air defence downs 320 assets, hits recorded at 20 sites

Russia carried out a large-scale combined attack on Ukraine on the night of 29-30 July, using attack drones as well as air-, land- and sea-launched missiles of various types. Ukrainian air defence has downed 320 out of the 358 aerial assets launched by the Russians.

Details: The main focus of the Russian attack was Kyiv and Lviv oblasts. Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Vinnytsia, Poltava, Mykolaiv and Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts were also targeted. According to the Air Force, a distinctive feature of this large-scale attack was the simultaneous use of different types of aerial assets from multiple directions, including a large number of ballistic and cruise missiles.
In total, the Air Force's air surveillance troops detected 358 aerial assets – 74 missiles and 284 drones of various types:
- 4 Zircon/Oniks anti-ship missiles (launched from Russia's Kursk Oblast)
- 9 Iskander-M/S-400/KN-23 ballistic missiles (launched from Russia's Bryansk, Voronezh and Kursk oblasts)
- 61 Kh-101/Kalibr cruise missiles (launched from Russia's Vologda Oblast and Novorossiysk)
- 284 Shahed attack drones (including jet-powered models), Gerbera, Italmas and Parodiya decoy drones (launched from Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol and Shatalovo in Russia).
Early reports indicate that as of 09:00, Ukrainian air defence had shot down or jammed 320 assets – 55 missiles and 265 drones of various types:
- 1 Iskander-M/S-400/KN-23 ballistic missile
- 54 Kh-101/Kalibr cruise missiles
- 265 drones of various types
As of now, three anti-ship missiles, six ballistic missiles, two cruise missiles and 17 attack drones have struck 20 locations. Debris from intercepted assets has fallen at 13 locations. The status of eight missiles is still being confirmed.
The Air Force warned that the attack is still ongoing.
