Yuri Ushakov, an aide to Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, has not ruled out that Russia's war against Ukraine could end in 2025, while Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov cautioned against premature conclusions.

Details: Asked about the likelihood of the war ending this year, Ushakov said: "I would like that."
Peskov, however, dismissed claims suggesting that Russia is close to a peace deal as premature. He added that many actors in various countries, particularly the United States, would try to disrupt moves towards a settlement.
"There will definitely be a large number of people in different countries – including the United States – who will try to derail these tendencies towards a transition to a peaceful trajectory. There will be many such people," Peskov said, commenting on, among other things, leaks of phone conversations between Ushakov and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.
Background:
- Earlier, media reports emerged that US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff had a telephone conversation with Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov in October, during which he gave advice on how Russia could better present its proposals for a "peace plan" to Donald Trump.
- Ushakov has said he does not know how the content of his conversations with Witkoff ended up in the media and insisted Russia was not behind the leaks or the interception of the communications.
