Astra later wrote that the refinery in Novokuybyshevsk had been targeted by drones.

"Footage filmed from Michurina Street shows at least three flashes: in the air at an altitude of around 1.5 km, above the horizon but also in the air – likely air defence responding to the south of the Novokuybyshevsk refinery (the distance from the filming location to the explosion is over 3.5 km) and a bright glow at the very end – directly on the refinery's territory," Astra wrote after analysing eyewitness videos.

Local authorities have not yet commented on the attack.

Novokuybyshevsk Oil Refinery JSC is part of the Rosneft group.

The refinery was previously attacked by drones on 16 November and 19 October.
