Details: According to Svyrydenko, this is a joint initiative of Ukraine and Team Europe aimed at providing protection for Ukrainians.
The coalition aims to create a modern network of civil protection shelters, including underground schools, kindergartens, hospitals and public facilities.
Svyrydenko pointed out that the total contributions from countries joining the coalition exceed €22 million, with Finland contributing €11 million, taking the lead in the coalition with its 80 years of experience in building bomb shelter systems.
Moreover, Sweden has contributed €7 million, Lithuania and Belgium €2 million each, and Ireland €0.5 million. Switzerland has also expressed its intention to join the initiative.
According to Svyrydenko, over 42 underground schools have already been constructed in frontline areas, funded by the state budget and previous partner contributions.
Background:
- In September, the European Commission announced an additional €40 million in humanitarian aid to help Ukrainians endure the fourth winter of Russia's war of aggression.
- In early November, Lithuania made a contribution through the UNITED24 initiative, financing shelters in three Ukrainian schools, located in Sumy, Zaporizhzhia and Zhytomyr oblasts.
