Details: Speaking at a briefing for Indian media, Peskov said:
"Through peace negotiations we must achieve the goals set within the framework of the special military operation [the war against Ukraine – ed.]."
According to Peskov, Russia wants peace, but Putin had "root causes" for starting the war against Ukraine.
The Kremlin spokesman also announced that the meeting between Vladimir Putin and US President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff would begin at around 17:00 Moscow time.
Interfax notes that Witkoff's visit will be his sixth in 2025. He first visited Moscow in February, followed by trips to Moscow and St Petersburg on 13 March, 11 and 25 April, and 6 August.
