Details: Commenting on a potential meeting, Szłapka noted that the European Council will hold a session in Brussels on Thursday and Friday.
Quote: "If the European Council session does not run too late, the meeting will, of course, take place… I know that President Zelenskyy is very keen to meet Prime Minister Tusk in Poland on Friday. We will, of course, arrange such a meeting."
Details: Szłapka added that Tusk and Zelenskyy had spoken on Monday 15 December in Berlin, particularly about an upcoming visit to Poland by Zelenskyy.
The Marshals (Chairs) of the Sejm and Senate of Poland, Włodzimierz Czarzasty and Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, also confirmed that Tusk and Zelenskyy will meet in Warsaw on Friday.
According to Czarzasty, Zelenskyy will arrive at the Sejm at around 12:00. The meeting will also be attended by Sejm Deputy Marshal Monika Wielichowska, co-chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Ukraine and the Republic of Poland, and Paweł Kowal, Chairman of the Sejm Foreign Affairs Committee.
Kidawa-Błońska added that the Tusk-Zelenskyy talks will focus on continued support for Ukraine.
Previously: Tusk, who attended the Berlin summit on peace in Ukraine, said that if Russia attacks Ukraine again, the United States will respond militarily to the aggressor.
Background:
- On 15 December, Zelenskyy met with a large group of European leaders in Berlin.
- Earlier on the same day, talks took place in Berlin between the Ukrainian and US delegations regarding a "peace plan". AFP reported that US negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner had pressed Ukrainian representatives to give up the part of Donbas still under Kyiv's control.
- Zelenskyy said that Ukraine will not recognise Donbas as Russian, either de facto or de jure.
