President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has criticised the fact that certain EU leaders are bringing Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin out of isolation and trying to justify his actions during his address to the European Council in Brussels.

Details: Zelenskyy, having warned his European partners about the consequences of a possible negative decision, also expressed regret that some European politicians are playing on Moscow's side.

He expressed the conviction that such politicians have been assigned the role of outsiders.

Quote: "The majority of Europeans believe that only Russia is to blame for this war. Yet some people in Europe still enjoy flying to Moscow. But let us be honest: the majority of Europeans understand that betraying moral values and European interests in favour of Moscow will never become the main European trend. It will always be the business of outsiders, not real leaders."

Details: Zelenskyy also recalled that Russian forces are committing daily crimes in Ukraine and that attempts by certain leaders to ignore this do not change reality. "No one will ever be able to explain to a Ukrainian child whose parents have been killed in this war that it is not the aggressor's fault and that he should not face consequences," he said.

In his speech, Zelenskyy did not mention any surnames but hinted that he was referring to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

Quote: "Even Viktor's best speeches and videos will not be able to convince this child that Putin is not guilty. No one will ever be able to explain to European voters why Europe should return €200 billion to Putin after everything he has destroyed and after all the difficult decisions that Europe has had to take because of his war."

More details: No other participant in the December EU summit is called Viktor – only the Hungarian prime minister.

Background:

  • In Brussels, Zelensky also stated that if there is no money for Ukraine, Europe will have to pay with blood.
  • Western media sources report that discussions on this issue at the summit are moving in the right direction.
