We sense that America wants to reach a final peace agreement – Zelenskyy

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that Washington remains determined to reach a "peace deal" after Ukrainian negotiators briefed him on talks with the United States.

Details: Zelenskyy said that on 23 December he had received a detailed report from Rustem Umierov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, and Andrii Hnatov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on the results of their meetings with the US team.

Quote: "They reported on the working drafts of agreements that already exist, and on points of the agreements we have managed to strengthen. We remain in constant contact with the United States and look forward to further collaboration."

More details: Zelenskyy said that Ukraine senses that "America wants to reach a final [peace] agreement, and from our side, there is full cooperation".

Quote: "Ukraine has never been, and will never be, an obstacle to peace. We are working actively and doing everything necessary to ensure that the documents come to fruition and that they are realistic. The key is that Russia must not sabotage this diplomacy and must take ending the war 100% seriously."

More details: Zelenskyy said that a further pressure on Russia is needed to stop its aggression against Ukraine, adding that "the world has all the instruments needed to make that pressure effective and ensure that peace is achieved".

Background:

On 21 December, Rustem Umierov said that meetings with American and European partners over the past three days in Florida had been productive and constructive.
US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff also said that the talks between representatives of the United States, Europe and Ukraine had been productive.
As European Pravda reported, US Vice President JD Vance said that progress had been made in peace talks on Ukraine, but there was no certainty that a peace settlement would be reached.
