Russia launches 116 drones overnight: 60 downed, strikes recorded at 19 locations

Russia launched an attack on Ukraine using 116 strike drones on the night of 23-24 December. Ukrainian air defence shot down 60 of them, while strikes were recorded at 19 locations.

Details: During the attack, the Russians used Shahed, Gerbera and other types of UAVs. Launches were recorded from several directions: Millerovo, Kursk, Shatalovo, Oryol and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as from Hvardiiske in temporarily occupied Crimea.
The Air Force reported that around 90 of the UAVs were Shahed attack drones.
It is noted that a significant number of the strike UAVs were directed at a critical infrastructure facility in Chernihiv Oblast.
Early reports show that as of 08:30, air defence units shot down or jammed 60 Russian Shahed, Gerbera and other types of UAVs in Ukraine's north, south and east.
In total, 48 strike drones hit 19 locations.
The air attack was repelled by Ukrainian aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups from Ukraine's defence forces.
Background: Russian drones attacked a key energy facility in Chernihiv District, leaving parts of the city of Chernihiv without electricity. A Russian drone also struck a multi-storey residential building in the city.
