Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has noted that over the past 24 hours Russia has failed to provide any credible evidence of an alleged Ukrainian attack on Vladimir Putin's residence. Sybiha added that Moscow would not produce any such evidence because no attack took place.

Quote: "Almost a day passed and Russia still hasn't provided any plausible evidence to its accusations of Ukraine's alleged 'attack on Putin's residence'. And they won't. Because there's none. No such attack happened.

We were disappointed and concerned to see the statements by Emirati, Indian, and Pakistani sides expressing their concerns regarding the attack that never happened.

It is even more surprising given that all three states failed to issue any official statements when a real Russian missile struck the real Ukrainian government building on 7 September 2025."

Details: Sybiha stressed that Russia has a long track record of making false claims.

For example, Russia insisted that it would not attack Ukraine in early 2022.

The foreign minister added that reacting to Russia's baseless and manipulative statements only plays into Russian propaganda and encourages Moscow to commit further atrocities and spread more lies.

Ukraine is calling on all states to act responsibly and refrain from responding to unverified accusations, as such reactions undermine the constructive peace process that has recently been moving forward.

Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that no evidence was needed to substantiate the alleged attack on Putin's residence.

According to Peskov, the large-scale attack by Ukrainian drones was repelled by air defence systems, while the search for debris was a matter for the Russian military.

Background:

  • On 29 December, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed that Ukraine had struck the residence of Russian leader Vladimir Putin on the night of 28-29 December, warning that Russia's "negotiating position" would be revised as a result.
  • Lavrov claimed that overnight, Ukraine attacked Putin's residence in Russia's Novgorod Oblast (probably Valdai) using 91 attack UAVs. He claimed that Russian air defence systems destroyed all the drones. Lavrov said that "Russia's negotiating position will be revised", but added that Russia does not intend to withdraw from the negotiation process with the United States regarding Ukraine.
  • Ukraine has officially denied these claims.
  • "Another lie by Russia. Obviously, yesterday we had the meeting with Trump, and obviously for the Russians, if there is no quarrel between America and us, and we have progress instead, then that is a failure for them. They don't want to end this war. They are only capable of ending it under pressure. And so they were looking, I am convinced, for reasons… and they are going further," President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented.
