Details: The EU's top diplomat stressed that no one should believe the unfounded accusations made by the aggressor state, which since the start of the war has indiscriminately struck Ukraine's infrastructure and civilian population.
"Russia's claim that Ukraine recently targeted key government sites in Russia is a deliberate distraction. Moscow aims to derail real progress towards peace by Ukraine and its Western partners," Kallas said.
Background:
- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday that the story about an "attack on the residence" was a Russian fake news intended to demonstrate Moscow's unwillingness to take the necessary steps to end the war.
- Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also views Russia's statements about an alleged Ukrainian attack on one of Putin's residences as an attempt to find a pretext for abandoning peace efforts.
- Moldovan President Maia Sandu has likewise accused Russia of sabotaging peace talks on Ukraine following the accusations voiced by Moscow.
