Russians attack Ukrainian railway infrastructure

Infrastructure of Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) has been damaged in Odesa, Sumy and Volyn oblasts as a result of Russian strikes on 1 January.

Details: Buildings at the locomotive depot in the city of Kovel in Volyn Oblast were damaged. Around seven Russian drone strikes were recorded on the site.
Russian forces also struck a railway station in the city of Konotop in Sumy Oblast, damaging freight wagons.
"In addition, the occupiers struck logistics infrastructure in Odesa Oblast with Shahed drones. The threat of repeat attacks remains there, which complicates repair works," Kuleba said.
He added that Ukrzaliznytsia repair teams are dealing with the aftermath of the strikes. The attack did not affect train traffic.
Background: On 1 January, Russia struck Ukraine's port infrastructure with drones. During the nighttime air attack, damage was recorded at port facilities in Odesa Oblast.
